Yesterday was our 13th annual Walleyedan Fishing To End Hunger fishing tournament, and boy was it a great success! Beautiful weather, although it didn’t feel too fall-like. We had 115 boats registered and 84 of those registered fish this year compared to 39 last year. This field of anglers are the best of the best on this Gull Lake Chain and it sure did show that. The winning team of Jake Caughey and Dan Steffen with 5 fish weighing 18.15 pounds. They went home with a check for $16,000.00. Congratulations guys! Congratulations to the rest of the top finishers too. And although this is a walleye tournament that has a very nice payout, it’s a charity tournament and the proceeds go to the Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes. The Outreach Program packs and distributes meals to our surrounding area and beyond. Shawn Hansen is the executive director and she, Tina Foster and all of the other volunteers do a tremendous job organizing this animal (I mean fish). Jingles, who is the largest walleye in Gull Lake was not caught yesterday, but Jake and Dan did catch the biggest walleye of the day. It weighed 8.53 pounds. Fall is just now rolling in, I can feel the chill down as I hunt and peck. This should get the fishing to another level and I’m excited to see for myself how things are going out there, after the gale force winds pipe down a bit. Our guides are still hard at it, so if you’d like to book a guided trip for this week (or for this winter), call Shelley at 218-839-5598.
Have a great week,
Walleyedan
