Extravaganza Week
Good morning, it’s Extravaganza week! I’m sure there are many of you with Viking hangovers (whether or not you are a drinker or not). I’m done drinking, but I’m not feeling up to snuff today, quite a let down. Hopefully the Minnesota folk that are going to be around for the super bowl festivities control themselves when they encounter Eagle fans.
So, on to the next event. The 28th annual Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza (www.icefishing.org) is this Saturday on Gull Lake and I’m hoping to see you there! We will be running Snobear/SnoCub taxi service to and from starting at 8:00 Saturday morning. Email us at walleyedan@walleyedan.com to inquire about scheduling and prices.
Fishing has been decent, so I’m hoping that it will continue. I was busy guiding over the weekend and the Gull Lake trips were successful. The fish we caught came out of 35-40 feet and most of them came on purple rattle spoon tipped with minnow heads. We also had some fish that wanted set lines/rattle reels with fathead minnows. The most successful trip was a giveaway trip through Luther Chevrolet in Hudson, WI. Jay Andrews Jr and his father in law caught a bunch on Friday morning and I would have to say it’s been one of my better trips in quite some time.
If you are wondering where to fish during the contest, I would say to spin the dial! There may be winners caught in 9 feet and there may be winners caught in 60 feet. You can fish two lines if you buy two tickets, and if I were doing that, I would have a tip-up set and I would jig the other hole with a 1/8 ounce spoon tipped with a minnow head. This contest is charitable and it’s one of the best people watching shows around!
