Minnesota Governor's
Fishing Opener 2008 |
|
|
I received a phone
call on Tuesday from
Carol Altepeter who
is the Governors
Fishing Opener event
coordinator from the
Explore Minnesota
Tourism office. When
she told me that I
was chosen to fish
the Governors
Opener, I asked with
who. When she then
told me that I was
chosen to fish with
Governor Tim
Pawlenty and the 1st
lady, chills went
through my body.
What excitement and
what an honor. I
have been blessed
with good fortune
and this is yet
another door that
has been opened in
our life and I am
looking forward to
opening day like
never before. The
opener is going to
be on Pelican Lake,
which is just north
of our business (Walleyedan’s
Guide Service)
location here in
Nisswa. Breezy Point
is the site of the
opener and it will
be a fun-filled
event that will
involve a lot of
activities in Pequot
Lakes and the
surrounding area. I
will not be guiding
of my new
Ranger 620 because there is
another boat
manufacturer that is
sponsoring the event
but the fish might
not know what the
difference is, we’ll
have to wait and
see.
Being asked to guide
for the Minnesota
Governors Fishing
Opener is a high
point in my career
and being in the
company of Al
Linder, Marv Koep,
Chip Leer and many
other awesome
anglers makes a
person feel pretty
darn good. Pelican
lake is a beautiful,
crystal clear 8,200
acre lake that has a
good population of
walleyes and
northern. We will
most likely be out
and about scouting
with our Aqua Vu’s
once we have some
open water to work
with but for now
it’s time to rig and
carry on with the
rest of duties. Our
guide service has
been quite busy over
the years and we are
thankful to have a
group of top-notch,
professional guides
that work under our
name. Our regular
guides are Tim
Hanske, Toby
Kvalevog and Bruce
Meinz. We also have
very qualified array
of fill-in guides
that are not only
good guides but good
guys. If you are
interested in
booking a guided
trip for the
upcoming season,
give us a ring at
218-839-5598.
God bless,
Walleyedan |
